These principles are grounded in the guidelines and best practices established by the Committee on Publication Ethics and reflect the journal’s commitment to academic integrity, intellectual honesty, and responsible scholarship.
The publication of articles in a peer-reviewed journal constitutes a fundamental component in the development of a coherent, credible, and respected body of knowledge, particularly in the fields of Islamic thought and civilization. Published works not only reflect the scholarly rigor of the authors but also the ethical and intellectual standards upheld by their affiliated institutions.
Tafakkur: Journal of Islamic Thought and Civilization upholds the principles of scholarly integrity and the ethics of knowledge production (adab al-‘ilm), ensuring that all contributions adhere to rigorous academic and moral standards. All parties involved in the publication process are therefore expected to maintain the highest level of ethical conduct.
The publisher is committed to ensuring that editorial decisions are made independently and are not influenced by commercial interests such as advertising, sponsorship, or other financial considerations. The Editorial Board may also collaborate with other journals and publishers when necessary to address ethical issues, including cases of misconduct, duplication, or disputes.
Editors are responsible for determining which manuscripts submitted to Tafakkur should be published. Decisions must be based on the manuscript’s scholarly merit, originality, contribution to Islamic thought and civilization, and relevance to the journal’s aims and scope. Editors must also consider applicable legal requirements regarding defamation, copyright, plagiarism, and intellectual property. In making decisions, editors may consult with reviewers and members of the Editorial Board.
Editors must evaluate manuscripts solely on the basis of their intellectual content and academic quality, without discrimination based on race, gender, religion, nationality, or political orientation. In line with Islamic ethical values, editorial judgment must be grounded in fairness (‘adl) and objectivity.
Editors and editorial staff must treat all submitted manuscripts as confidential documents. Information regarding a manuscript may only be shared with the corresponding author, reviewers, editorial advisers, and the publisher as appropriate.
Editors must not use unpublished information from submitted manuscripts for their own research without explicit written consent from the author(s). Editors must also avoid handling manuscripts where conflicts of interest exist due to personal, institutional, or professional relationships.
Peer review plays a vital role in supporting editorial decisions and enhancing the quality of manuscripts. Reviewers are expected to provide constructive, critical, and scholarly feedback to improve the work.
Reviewers who feel unqualified or unable to complete the review within the specified timeframe must promptly notify the editor and decline the review invitation.
Manuscripts under review must be treated as confidential. Reviewers must not share or distribute the manuscript without prior authorization from the editor.
Reviews should be conducted objectively, respectfully, and professionally. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Reviewers should provide clear arguments supported by evidence.
Reviewers should identify relevant works that have not been cited by the author(s). Any similarity or overlap with previously published work must be reported to the editor.
Reviewers must not use privileged information obtained during the review process for personal gain. They must decline to review manuscripts where conflicts of interest exist.
Authors must present an accurate, clear, and objective account of their research. Manuscripts should include sufficient detail and references to allow replication. Fabrication, falsification, or misrepresentation of data constitutes unethical conduct.
Authors may be required to provide raw data for editorial review and should retain such data for a reasonable period after publication.
Authors must ensure that their work is original. Proper citation must be provided when using the ideas or words of others. Plagiarism, including self-plagiarism, is strictly prohibited.
Authors must not submit the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously or publish redundant versions of the same research.
All sources that have contributed to the research must be properly acknowledged.
Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made significant contributions to the research. All co-authors must approve the final manuscript. Contributors who do not meet authorship criteria should be acknowledged.
If the research involves human participants, animals, or hazardous materials, authors must clearly state compliance with ethical standards, institutional approvals, and legal requirements. Ethical considerations must align with both international standards and Islamic ethical values.
Authors must disclose any financial or personal conflicts of interest that may influence the research. Sources of funding must be clearly stated.
