The violence presented in the novel is analysed using the sociology of literature theory with Robert F. Litke's concept of violence as its analytical framework. This research was conducted through three stages: data collection, data analysis, and the presentation of analysis results. Data collection was carried out using the simak catat method, while data analysis employed the descriptive analytical method within the framework of literary sociology. The homologous technique is used to align the literary facts found in the novel with corresponding social facts from the historical context of Sudan in the 1950s. The results of the study show that four forms of violence in the name of religion are present in the novel, namely personal-physical violence, personal-psychological violence, institutional-physical violence, and institutional-psychological violence. The perpetrators of violence are Al-Muttaqī, an extremist group that incited riots in the fictional city of As-Sūr. Their violence was directed against the non-Muslim minority population from various social circles, including merchant families, traders, artists, and Christian missionaries. The analysis further reveals that the literary work reflects the social conditions of Sudan in the 1950s, particularly the dynamics of the first Sudanese Civil War.
2026-06-11T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2026 Tafakkur : Journal of Islamic Thought and Civilizationhttps://jurnal.andalasmandiriberkarya.com/index.php/tafakkur/article/view/52From Worship to Entertainment: The Shifting Meaning of Ramadan in the Culture of Watching Musalsalāt in Egypt2026-06-04T06:23:35+00:00Fikri Labib Fajarfikrilabib99@gmail.com
Egypt is a country with a long history of cultural interaction and social transformation. This condition has shaped various unique traditions, including the development of Ramadan popular culture through musalsalāt (Arabic television serial dramas). This study aims to examine the emergence of musalsalāt culture during Ramadan in Egypt, its social significance, and its relationship with Islamic values amid modernization and globalization. This research employs a qualitative method with a library research approach by analyzing books, academic journals, historical sources, and relevant media publications. The findings show that the tradition of watching musalsalāt during Ramadan emerged from the interaction between technological development, globalization, capitalist media industries, and the transformation of Egyptian society. In contemporary Egypt, musalsalāt are not merely entertainment, but also function as instruments of social influence, economic profit, cultural identity formation, and even political messaging. However, this phenomenon also creates tensions between the spiritual essence of Ramadan and the increasingly dominant entertainment culture. The study concludes that musalsalāt represent a new cultural form whose meaning depends on how society produces, interprets, and consumes it. Therefore, this phenomenon reflects the complex negotiation between religion, modernity, and popular culture in contemporary Egyptian society.
2026-06-11T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2026 Tafakkur : Journal of Islamic Thought and Civilizationhttps://jurnal.andalasmandiriberkarya.com/index.php/tafakkur/article/view/32The Concept of Halal and Tayyib Food in the Qur’an: A Thematic Tafsir Analysis on Health and Public Nutrition2026-06-04T06:28:55+00:00Muhammad Azizmuhziz432@gmail.comAdi Pratama Awadinadi.pratamaawadin2000@gmail.com
This article aims to understand halal and healthy food according to the Qur’an. The principal aim of the study is to demonstrate that al-Farabi’s worldview should not be understood merely as an abstract theoretical system, but rather as an intellectual phenomenon formed within the framework of a concrete historical reality marked by social crisis, religio-ideological conflict, and the wider movement of scholarly translation. From this perspective, the scientific milieu of Baghdad, the crisis of power during the Abbasid era, polemics among religious currents, debates in kalam and fiqh, military and political instability, and processes of cultural synthesis are analyzed as factors that directly influenced the content and structure of al-Farabi’s philosophical system. In addition, the article highlights the significance of Arabic primary sources, manuscripts, biobibliographical works, and the classical tabaqat tradition in the study of al-Farabi’s heritage. The fact that information about al-Farabi is dispersed across a wide range of sources and at times appears in mutually contradictory forms reinforces the importance of source-critical methodology in Farabi studies. In this regard, the article argues that a proper understanding of al-Farabi’s philosophy requires not only an examination of his own treatises, but also a parallel consideration of the accounts of Arabic authors who wrote about him, the historical context, the terminological apparatus, and the manuscript tradition. As a result, al-Farabi’s philosophy is evaluated both as a rational response to the socio-political crises of his age and as a profound intellectual project concerning the relationship between reason and revelation, philosophy and religion, power and virtue within Islamic civilization.
2026-06-11T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2026 Tafakkur : Journal of Islamic Thought and Civilization
