Social Bullying Among Adolescents in School Settings in Nigeria: A Comparative Review of Counselling and Parenting Intervention Strategies

Social bullying is a widespread problem amongst adolescents, with far-reaching consequences for their mental health, well-being and academic achievement. This comparative review examines the effectiveness of counselling strategies and parental interventions in preventing social bullying amongst adolescents. The study is grounded in Social-Ecological Systems Theory, which explains how adolescent behaviour is shaped by observation, imitation, and interactions within the family, school, and wider social environments. Methodologically, this study employs a systematic literature review, drawing on empirical and theoretical studies from peer-reviewed journals, books, and credible reports. Sources were selected based on relevance, recency, and methodological rigour, with an emphasis on studies addressing adolescent bullying, counselling interventions, and the role of parents. The findings of this review reveal that both counselling strategies and parental interventions are effective in preventing social bullying; however, counselling appears to be more impactful in addressing underlying psychological issues and equipping adolescents with coping and social skills. This research further highlights that a multifaceted approach combining counselling, parental involvement, school-based interventions, and community support yields more sustainable outcomes. This review underlines important implications for policymakers, educators, and mental health professionals seeking to prevent social bullying and promote positive adolescent development. It is recommended that policymakers support evidence-based interventions; educators integrate social-emotional learning into the curriculum; mental health professionals provide targeted counselling services; and parents maintain open communication, model positive behaviour, and seek professional support when necessary.

Maritime Santri School Programme: A Model for the Transformation of Pesantren Education in Strengthening Sustainable Ecological Awareness in Banyuwangi

Erosion and the destruction of mangrove forests constitute an environmental crisis that currently poses a major challenge to the coastal region of Banyuwangi. The increasingly complex reality of the environmental crisis in this coastal area requires a response from various approaches, particularly an Islamic approach as a comprehensive solution to environmental problems. The Islamic approach through santri education offers a strategic opportunity to foster ecological awareness and strengthen environmental conservation efforts in the coastal region of Banyuwangi. Pesantren Al-Anwari is one of the Islamic boarding schools in Banyuwangi that plays a role in supporting coastal environmental conservation. This study aims to analyse the transformation of the santri movement and the innovations of Pesantren Al-Anwari in responding to the environmental crisis in the coastal areas of Banyuwangi. This study employs a qualitative method with field research comprising participatory observation, in-depth interviews and documentation. The findings conclude that Al-Anwari Islamic Boarding School has successfully integrated religious values and awareness whilst simultaneously offering a new model of sustainable education rooted in the coastal community. Through the innovative establishment of the Santri Maritim school, the Al-Anwari Islamic boarding school has transformed itself into a centre for education focused on coastal ecosystem conservation. This innovation has successfully driven a -social transformation that synergises the community’s social norms, values, patterns and structures. The transformation of the students is manifested through a shift from a theological movement towards a socio-humanist movement.

Religious Tolerance Practices within Military Environment: A Study of Pura Wira Satya Dharma, Bandung

This study aims to analyse how inter-religious tolerance is formed and practised in daily life at Pura Wira Satya Dharma, Bandung. This research is significant given that Indonesia is a multicultural society where religion-based conflicts still occur, thus requiring a deeper understanding of how tolerance is manifested within specific social contexts. This study employs a qualitative, descriptive-ethnographic design. Data were collected through participant observation, semi-structured interviews with temple management and local community members, and documentation of religious and social activities. The data were analysed using thematic analysis to identify key patterns in tolerance practice. The findings indicate that inter-religious tolerance is built through three main aspects. Firstly, everyday practices are characterised by the openness of places of worship and the freedom to carry out religious activities. Secondly, interfaith social activities, such as blood donation drives, community service, and cooperative work (gotong royong), serve as effective informal spaces for interaction. Thirdly, the role of the military environment as an institutional structure that instils the values of nationalism, discipline, and solidarity, thereby strengthening inclusive social relations. Theoretically, this research contributes to an understanding of interfaith tolerance as a social process shaped by the interaction among everyday practices, religious values, and institutional structures, rather than solely through normative discourse or formal interfaith dialogue. In practical terms, these findings highlight the importance of developing sustainable interfaith social programmes, such as community service and joint humanitarian activities, as effective strategies for strengthening social cohesion and interfaith harmony in multicultural communities. The originality of this research lies in its examination of tolerance within a military and institutional context that remains underexplored in studies on interfaith relations.

Analysis of Air Quality in Urban Campus Areas Based on Real-Time AirVisual Data: A Study of Pollution Exposure in the UIN Jakarta Campus Environment

Air quality has become an increasingly pressing environmental health issue, particularly in densely populated urban areas such as Jakarta. As a region with high levels of human activity and motor vehicle traffic, air pollution from particulate matter ( .5, ) and hazardous gases such as CO2, NO2, and has had a serious impact on public health, ranging from respiratory problems to long-term illnesses. Campus environments, including the State Islamic University (UIN) Jakarta, which should be comfortable places for learning and carrying out activities, are not immune to this threat. However, awareness of air quality conditions around the campus remains low due to limited access to real-time, easily understandable air quality data. This study aims to implement the AirVisual application to monitor air quality on the UIN Jakarta campus. The use of this digital technology is expected to provide accurate, easily accessible, and real-time air quality information, thereby supporting efforts to prevent health risks arising from exposure to air pollution. The results of the study show that pollutant concentrations tend to increase from morning to afternoon, with the third week of observation showing the poorest air quality compared to the other weeks. These findings indicate that transport activities and meteorological factors contribute to increased pollutant concentrations on campus. This study demonstrates the potential of the AirVisual application as a practical alternative to air quality monitoring systems, supporting the adoption of more adaptive and sustainable campus environmental policies.
